Can Patients Change Insurance Plans During the Course of Treatment Without Pre-Existing Exclusions?

Beginning in 2014, the Affordable Care Act prohibits insurance company denials for patients with pre-existing conditions.  Patients will no longer be denied, or charged a higher premium, simply because they have a health condition.  In addition, caps on annual and lifetime benefits will be removed, which means that plans will not be able to stop paying for services you need.

Does the ACA Dictate Which Services are Considered Preventative?

Group health plans are prohibited from imposing cost-sharing requirements for the recommended preventive services when those services are provided by in-network providers. If your insurance coverage went into effect after March 23, 2010 (the date the Affordable Care Act was signed into law) the full cost of preventative care such as preventative colonoscopies should be covered.
