Patient Advocate Foundation Releases the 2020 Annual Impact Report
… 25 Years of Supporting Patient Journeys
Hampton, VA (May 17, 2021) – Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF), a national non-profit organization which provides case management services and financial aid to patients with chronic, life-threatening, and debilitating illness, is pleased to announce the release of its 2020 Annual Impact Report (AIR), 25 Years of Delivering Patient Advocacy by Supporting Patient Journeys.
The report highlights the impact that our programs and services have on the lives of patients and their families struggling with financial crises and various other challenges, inequities and disparities presented by the world’s most expensive and complicated healthcare system. It contains extensive data, patient testimonials and highlights from each of PAF’s service and engagement areas during the 2020 calendar year spanning case management, financial assistance, education and training, health services research, and community outreach and engagement. The report also acknowledges our generous supporters and provides financial statements for PAF’s most recent fiscal year of 2019/20.
In 2020 PAF provided direct relief to more than 192,000 patients from all 50 states and each US territory representing 629 distinct diagnoses through 44 unique patient service programs. Our mission is reflected in the practical problems addressed and the specific populations served.
“As our nation is poised to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and our organization enters its 25th year of service to patients, I find the release of this Annual Impact Report even more relevant. Our unwavering commitment to the development of effective response strategies that support patients in their time of crisis has never been more evident or more needed,” PAF CEO Alan Balch, PhD said. “PAF is privileged to serve alongside, and to be supported by, so many others who share our belief that each member of the community should have an equal opportunity to achieve good health.”
PAF was founded in 1996 by Nancy Davenport-Ennis, and co-founded by John H. Ennis, to help address the issues faced by patients like their friend Cheryl Grimmel, who had to battle not only her breast cancer but for access to affordable treatments. In PAF’s first year, Nancy and a part-time volunteer staff of two provided case management assistance to 157 patients who faced barriers to prescribed care. Fast forward to 2021 and the organization has helped more than 1.5 million patients nationwide with support provided by more than 200 staff.
